UTICA – Eleven students that will be entering 8th and 9th grade this fall are having an opportunity to spend two days in the world of hospital healthcare this summer.  M.A.S.H. Camp was held on June 24 and June 25 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
M.A.S.H. stands for Medical Academy of Science and Health. This two-day camp is sponsored by St. Elizabeth Medical Center and the Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC).  The organizations have been partners on this initiative to address the mutual goal of alleviating the shortage of health professionals by encouraging young people to explore health careers.
“St. Elizabeth Medical Center has been offering M.A.S.H. Camp annually since 2006.  This exciting program affords students a fun, interactive way in which to explore the many opportunities and challenges faced by today’s healthcare professionals,” said Samantha Rouillier, Admissions Coordinator at St. Elizabeth College of Nursing and 2014 M.A.S.H. Camp Coordinator.
A variety of careers were highlighted during M.A.S.H. Camp through hands-on workshops for students, including much attention from professional staff members. All campers received hospital scrubs to wear each day at camp, breakfast and lunch and educational materials.
