Mohawk Valley Health System’s Campaign For Quality
to Feature Family Obesity Specialist From NBC’s “The Biggest Loser”
Events held at Hamilton College on Friday, October 17, are free and open to the public.
At some point in most people’s lives, they have had the goal to lose five to ten pounds or maybe even more. It can be heartbreaking, however, when it is your own child dealing with a weight issue and it brings up the question of who is responsible for your child’s health.
Childhood obesity is a national epidemic, and is not a problem that can be ignored. Joanna Dolgoff, MD, the official family obesity specialist for NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” will be a featured speaker at the Mohawk Valley Health System’s (MVHS) Campaign For Quality (CFQ), an educational conference being held on Friday, October 17, at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. Dr. Dolgoff’s presentation will take place at 1:30pm and registration is required. The conference is free and open to the public, and more information and registration details can be found at www.campaignforquality.com.
Dr. Dolgoff, a physician and child and family obesity specialist, is the creator and author of “Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right,” a family weight loss program. She was featured in Parent Magazine’s article “Seven Pediatricians Making a Difference in 2013,” is a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics and Dannon Yogurt, and is medical director of Camp Shane, the nation’s longest-running weight loss camp.
Since its creation in 2008, “Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right” has proved tremendously successful, helping children and adults from 46 states and four countries lose weight. Dr. Dolgoff and the program have been featured multiple times in several major news outlets including “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” CNN and Fox News’ ”Happening Now.” She has also been written about in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Parent Magazine and People Magazine.
In her presentation, Dr. Dolgoff will explain the main causes of childhood obesity. By highlighting the medical consequences, she will help the audience understand why parents should address their child’s weight issue with a healthcare professional as soon as possible. She will also discuss the best methods to teach children about healthy nutritional and exercise habits.
About Campaign For Quality
MVHS’s 2014 CFQ promises to give everyone in attendance a new perspective on today’s ever changing healthcare system.
This popular educational event, celebrating its 13th anniversary, features international, national and local experts presenting on current trends in healthcare, patient experiences, population health topics and patient safety initiatives. The Friday portion, held at Hamilton College, is free to attend. A special evening presentation and dinner ($15 per person) will be held on Thursday, October 16, at the Radisson Hotel in Utica, New York.
“Our community’s health is a shared responsibility – shared by our patients and residents, their families and our providers and healthcare staff,” said Scott H. Perra, FACHE, president/CEO of MVHS. “Joining forces for the fourth year with Iroquois Healthcare’s Annual Quality and Patient Safety Forum, the 2014 CFQ offers something for everyone.”
The conference offers 12 presentations in total including topics on: stroke prevention in women, palliative care, communication in healthcare, readmissions, behavioral health, reducing diagnostic errors and more. It is open to all employees, medical staff and volunteers from hospitals across New York State, as well as the general public. In 2013, more than 430 physicians, healthcare workers, students and community members were in attendance. Twenty-three hospitals and 13 healthcare organizations located throughout New York State were represented at last year’s CFQ.
“Any provider, any healthcare worker or anyone concerned about their health or the health of a loved one should make time to attend Campaign For Quality,” said Perra. “This educational series brings together speakers of incredible talent and experience … speakers you’d normally have to travel to hear in major cities and at major academic healthcare institutes. Even if you only attend one session, you will come away with knowledge that may help change your healthcare experience in a very positive way.”
CFQ is coordinated by the Keith A. Fenstemacher Center for Continuous Learning at FSLH and is sponsored by MVHS (affiliates include FSLH and St. Elizabeth Medical Center) as well as their medical staffs, Iroquois Healthcare, Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company (MLMIC), ProAct Inc. and Sodexo.
